7 Tips for How to Decorate Like a Designer

Decorating like the people from top interior design firms in Malaysia may not be that easy, but it doesn’t mean that you cannot try to be like them.

Today, I am going to share some tips to help you decorate like a true designer.

Don’t Skimp on the Furniture that You Love

If you are going to cheap out on something, do not let it be your favorite furniture. Buying the right furniture, no matter how expensive it is, is the right thing to do.

Since most interior designers now push for a more minimalistic look, you should look at buying furniture from a quality standpoint. Gone are the days where you have to overpopulate your house with different stuff.

For instance, you might love a leather couch more than anything, so do not worry about spending too much money on that since that will be a good investment in the long run.

Always Be Organized

Part of minimalist design is to make your home space clutter-free. Therefore, look at your current stuff and remove all of the things that do not serve a definite purpose anymore. Think about ditching your old furniture or perhaps there are things that you want to remove because it doesn’t give anything of value to you anymore.

Whatever the case may be, anything extra should be removed.

Don’t Be Afraid to Trust Your Instincts

One can easily get lost in the details and if you are experiencing that, there is only one thing that you can do: trust your gut.

For example, you might have a plan of executing things and making design decisions for your home. You might not like the result so you can turn to your gut instinct and make the necessary changes until you feel okay.

Add Some Greenery

Most modern homes make use of additional greenery. Not only will it improve the aesthetics of your house but live plants can actually help improve the air quality as well.

That being said, you can opt for low-maintenance plants so that you do not have to really think about them that much. Add them in your living room, some in your kitchen, and perhaps one plant in your bedroom would suffice.

Lighting is an Important Consideration

Lighting is always going to be very important but instead of thinking about just the ceiling lighting, you can also incorporate mood lights as well.

There are some people that would prefer mood and subtle lighting, especially during the night as it helps them relax.

Do Not Be Too Artsy

Unless it is part of your creative expression, overdesigning your house is a thing.

However, for most people, I suggest that you do not go way overboard with your design ideas. A minimalist look is all you need, especially since it marries both functionality and aesthetics really well.

Add Some Art

Lastly, add some art pieces in the different areas of your house. If you are going to put up some paintings, make sure that the main focal point of the painting should be eye level or roughly 57 inches from the floor.
